Jeep Brand to Recognize and Reward Heroes with Opportunity to Receive New Jeep Grand Cherokee

Auburn Hills, Mich., Jan 19, 2005 - With the New Year underway, individuals are quickly making and breaking resolutions. Here’s one to keep: take the time to remember those that mean the most and thank someone who embodies the attributes of a true American hero through an initiative launched by the Jeep® brand to recognize everyday heroes.

The Jeep Heroes Nomination Program rewards military, police, fire and emergency medical services (EMS) personnel who deliver exemplary, unique and heroic service to improve the quality of life in cities and towns across America.

Through the year, the Jeep brand is actively seeking nominations online at www.jeep.com/nominate. Each month new Jeep Heroes will be recognized on the Web site and entered for a chance to win one of four new Jeep Grand Cherokees with "go-anywhere, do-anything" capability.

Twelve Jeep Heroes will be chosen in total, three in each category: military, police, fire and EMS. The four Grand Prize Winners, one from each of the Jeep Heroes categories, will be selected on Nov. 10, prior to Veteran's Day 2005.

"There is a natural affinity between those who serve others and the Jeep brand. Both have a long record of accomplishment in times of need," said Chrysler Group's Jeff Bell, Vice President - Chrysler and Jeep. "It is an honor for us to recognize them for all they do, and we are proud to applaud their efforts."

An Advisory Committee - made up of military, police, fire and EMS association representatives, uniformed services advocates and former public officials - will review the nominations and select each Jeep Hero.

"The best way to recognize these 'everyday heroes' is to give the power to the people in their communities. They know best how important their contributions are to public safety," said Bell. "We hope that the Jeep Heroes Nomination Program will bring to light a few of the many stories that typify the daily sacrifice and heroism of our military, police, fire and EMS personnel."

Jeep Hero nominators must be 18 years or older and licensed drivers. Nominees must be legal residents of the 50 United States and the District of Columbia, age 18 years or older, and must be current employees or volunteers of the police, fire or emergency medial service departments or active members of the U.S. Military.

Nominators must submit a 200-word or fewer essay on why a nominee deserves to be honored as a Jeep Hero. Those who nominated one of the four Grand Prize Winners will receive $500 toward new Jeep brand merchandise.

Entry forms and complete rules on the Jeep Heroes Nomination Program are available at www.jeep.com/nominate.

"Allow us to introduce you to the Chrysler Firepower! --- that's what the company calls it, and the name includes that disturbing exclamation point --- shapely and eminently more rational concept crumpet that will be spinning before the flashbulbs of the 2005 North American International Auto Show in Detroit"

  • Chrysler and Dodge Minivans Earn NHTSA’s Highest Frontal Crash Test Rating

Auburn Hills, Mich., Jan 06, 2005 - With safety, security and quality at the forefront of its design, the entire line-up of 2005 Chrysler Group minivans has earned the highest ratings - five stars for frontal impact crash tests - from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA).

Included in the five-star rating are the 2005 Chrysler Town & Country and the Dodge Caravan/Grand Caravan - both short-wheel base and long-wheel base versions.

NHTSA’s five-star rating ranks the likelihood of injury in a frontal impact crash at 10 percent or less.

"From its inception, we developed our minivans with attention to safety, security, quality and family,” said Deb Morrissett, Vice President – Safety and Regulatory Affairs. “Chrysler Group minivans have always been one of the safest vehicles on the road and the five-star rating is a compliment to the hard work of our engineers and designers that went into creating this safe vehicle .”

Chrysler Group was the first company to introduce the minivan to the masses in November 1983. Since then, the list of Chrysler and Dodge minivan “firsts” has grown, and includes:

  • First minivan to introduce a standard driver air bag (1991);

  • First minivan with center high-mounted brake light (1991);

  • First minivan to offer integrated child seat (1992);

  • First minivan to offer standard passenger-side air bag (1994);

  • First minivan in U.S. market to offer driver-side sliding door (fourth door) (1996);

  • First minivan to offer power-up and power-down liftgate (2001);

  • And, first minivan to offer Stow ‘n Go™ seating and storage system with fold-in-the-floor second and third row seating (2004).

Additionally, the newest “first” includes a door alert, which activates when the power sliding doors or manual sliding doors are in operation, signaling that occupants are getting in or out of the vehicle. The door alert is standard on all 2005 Chrysler and Dodge minivans.

To date, Chrysler Group has sold more than 10 million minivans worldwide. The Chrysler Group continues to be the leader of this segment, with more than 34 percent of the minivan market.

Chrysler Group minivans are manufactured at Windsor Assembly Plant in Windsor, Ontario, Canada, and St. Louis Assembly Plant in Fenton, Mo.
