02/26/05: Dodge Launches Search for Ultimate Guy
- Survey says dependability and humor take top spots for most desirable characteristics in men
- Nominate your ultimate guy at www.dodge.com/ultimateguy
- Dodge Dakota Ultimate Guy wins a 2005 Dodge Dakota and a dream sports day with friends
Auburn Hills, Mich., Feb 23, 2005 - Dodge Dakota is conducting a national search for the Ultimate Guy - someone who is strong, capable, works hard and plays even harder. The winner of the Dodge Dakota Ultimate Guy contest will receive a 2005 Dodge Dakota and an ultimate sports day for himself and four of his friends.
According to a national survey commissioned by Dodge and conducted by Harris Interactive®, U.S. women want the "man" back in manly. Ninety percent of women prefer a regular, capable and laid-back guy to just five percent still wanting the hip, fashion conscious "metrosexual" male.
Consumers can submit a Dodge Dakota Ultimate Guy nomination at www.dodge.com/ultimateguy or via mail. The essays, in 150 words or less, must characterize the nominee’s bold distinctive style, unique qualities and capabilities, and why he stands out in a crowd.
"The Dodge Dakota Ultimate Guy contest is looking for the guy who values the three Ts: Tools, Toys and Trucks," said Fred Diaz, Director - Dodge Communications, Chrysler Group. "He is the kind of guy who respects and uses power tools on a regular basis, owns a grill and is not afraid to use it and either has a truck, had a truck or sees a truck in his near future."
Survey Says
Dodge Dakota and Harris interactive conducted a national survey asking men and women what characteristics they prefer in their friends/ideal man.
Women are most interested in being able to count on their man, as dependability took the top spot for best characteristic (92 percent). In a close second, women said their ideal man can make them laugh (88 percent). These two traits also ranked tops for men in the opposite order, who believe their friend’s most important trait is a sense of humor (66 percent) with dependability a close second at 62 percent.
As to how a woman’s ideal guy prefers to spend his free time, the survey found women would rather he spend more time hanging a mirror than standing in front of one. Home improvement projects ranked number one at 72 percent, as compared to spending time on their appearance by shopping for clothes (10 percent) or working out with a personal trainer (9 percent).
Additional survey results showed:
Shopping for Milk, Eggs, Shampoo: 75 percent of women said they want a guy who buys his shampoo at the same place he gets his milk and eggs. Only 17 percent of women want a man who buys his products at salons.
Rough Hands Rule: 61 percent of women prefer their man’s hands to be rough and hard-working opposed to well manicured (39 percent).
"Cab" means truck, not Cabernet: Women want a man who spends his money on his car or truck, not fine wines (45 percent to 18 percent).
The Search is On
Twelve ultimate guy finalists will be selected by judges based on essays submitted via the nomination form. One lucky finalist will be named the Dodge Dakota Ultimate Guy and win the Grand Prize: a 2005 Dodge Dakota, plus a Dakota Dream Sports Day with four of his friends. The 11 semi-finalists will all receive an ultimate tailgating prize, including portable grill, stainless steel cooler and deluxe chairs.
Finalists will be asked to submit photos of themselves that will be featured on the Web site, along with answers to the following questions:
- Ultimate Guy Style: Tell us what characterizes (your friend’s/your) bold, distinctive style.
- Ultimate Guy Capability: Tell us about (your friend’s/your) unique qualities and capabilities.
- Ultimate Guy Stand Out: Tell us why (your friend stands out/you stand out) from the crowd as the obvious choice for Dodge Dakota Ultimate Guy.
About the All-new 2005 Dodge Dakota
The Dodge Truck lineup continues to haul the most leadership claims. Bigger, bolder and tougher, the all-new 2005 Dodge Dakota stands alone as the largest and strongest mid-size pickup on the market with the only two V-8 engines in its class. New interiors improve comfort levels on both Dakota Club Cab and Dakota Quad Cab models, with more interior room than any other mid-size pickup. The Dodge Dakota Quad Cab offers the most interior space in its class with available six-passenger seating.
Methodology
Harris Interactive fielded the online survey between Feb. 4 and 8, 2005, among 2,131 U.S. adults aged 18 and over, of whom 1,003 were men and 1,128 were women. The data were weighted to be representative of the total U.S. adult population on the basis of region, age within gender, education, household income, race/ethnicity and propensity to be online. In theory, with a sample of this size, one could say with 95 percent certainty that the results for the overall sample have a sampling error of plus or minus two percentage points and the sampling error for the individual samples of men and women is plus or minus three percentage points. This online sample is not a probability sample.

- Legendary Dodge Charger makes anticipated return to NASCAR Cup Series Racing at Daytona International Speedway
- Race fans and muscle-car enthusiasts get first look at Dodge Charger, Dodge Charger Daytona R/T, Dodge Ram Daytona vehicles
- Dodge City delivers off-track excitement, driver appearances, display of Dodge DNA for race-bound fans
Daytona Beach, Fla., Feb 18, 2005 -
Dodge is leveraging one of the most-watched sporting events of the year - the Daytona 500 - to herald the return of the legendary Dodge Charger to American roadways and racetracks nationwide and to celebrate the launch of the several new Dodge vehicles.
"Throughout Dodge’s involvement in modern-era NASCAR competition, its vehicles have dominated at Daytona," said Darryl Jackson, Vice President - Dodge Marketing, Chrysler Group. "From the time that Dodge painted the city of Daytona Beach red to lead its return to NASCAR Cup Series racing in 2001, Dodge has generated tremendous excitement for race fans. This year we’re adding to that excitement with the introduction of the new Dodge Charger and, hopefully, another visit to Victory Lane at the Daytona International Speedway."
Dodge Charger Gears Up for 2005 NASCAR Debut
After almost 30 years, the legendary Dodge Charger race car will roar again in NASCAR competition. Just one day after the Dodge Charger passenger vehicle was revealed at the North American International Auto Show (NAIAS) in a NASCAR-themed press event in Detroit, legendary Dodge Charger driver Richard Petty and one of the top Dodge drivers of 2004, Jeremy Mayfield, unveiled the new Dodge Charger race car at Daytona International Speedway on Jan. 11.
This Sunday, four Dodge factory-backed teams, including 10 drivers, will drive Dodge Chargers in the 2005 NASCAR Nextel Cup Series season-opening Daytona 500. The original Dodge Charger race car debuted during the 1966 Speedweeks at Daytona International Speedway. Richard Petty earned the most recent Dodge Charger victory in the Daytona 500 on Feb. 17, 1974.
The Dodge Charger race car takes its cues from the production car, with strong styling and powerful performance. The new 2006 Dodge Charger passenger vehicle features a distinctive crosshair front grille, bold rear fascia and signature rear side windows. The modern rear-wheel-drive muscle car is expected to hit Dodge Dealer showrooms this summer.
Dodge Unveils New Dodge Charger Daytona R/T
In celebration of the Dodge Charger’s return to NASCAR racing, Dodge also introduced the new limited-production 2006 Charger Daytona R/T model amidst the sounds of the speedway, cheers of the fans and the roar of the legendary HEMI® engine.
"The legendary Dodge Charger nameplate returns on a modern, high-performance, rear-wheel-drive vehicle that combines bold design with four-door functionality," Jackson said. "To celebrate Dodge Charger's return to NASCAR, we’re introducing a limited-production Daytona R/T model that offers a little slice of history with all the performance and handling characteristics to satisfy modern muscle car enthusiasts."
The production vehicles, which are on display all week at Dodge City, feature classic "Top Banana" yellow and "Go ManGo!" metallic orange paint schemes. As a special introduction of both cars, Dodge City will poll fans as to which classic color scheme should appear next on the production vehicle, from famous 1970s' colors, such as Tor-Red, Sub Lime and HEMI-Orange.
Race fans got to see the special high-impact color schemes on Dodge race cars during the Bud Shootout on Feb. 12, as Dodge Charger drivers Jeremy Mayfield and Kasey Kahne piloted replica paint schemes on the No. 9 and No. 19 Dodge Dealers/UAW Dodge Chargers.
Dodge Rams in Spotlight at Daytona, Too
Dodge Ram trucks also will share the spotlight at Daytona as two new Viper-powered 2006 Dodge Ram SRT10 Quad Cabs pace the field for the season-opening Florida Dodge Dealers 250 NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series race.
Dodge also will host a Dodge Ram Daytona drive-away, as 75 brand new special-edition 2006 Dodge Ram Daytona trucks participate in the driver introduction parade laps for the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series race on Friday. Several Dodge Dealers will participate, and drive the trucks from the racetrack to their dealership showrooms that afternoon.
Dodge City Thrills Fans Outside the Race Track
Visitors to Daytona Beach won’t need tickets to enjoy an exciting Dodge City lineup of featured events and appearances by Dodge drivers, including Ryan Newman, Kasey Kahne, Jeremy Mayfield, Kyle Petty, Bobby Hamilton, Ted Musgrave and several others.
"The action at Dodge City is almost as loud and intense as it is across the street in the Daytona International Speedway," Jackson said. "Dodge is all about powerful performance on the street and on the track, and in Daytona Beach, we offer fans the best of both worlds. Whether you want to cheer your favorite Dodge Charger driver on to victory lane, or simulate a chance of doing it yourself, we’ve got you covered."
Headlining the many fan activities at Dodge City are Dodge "Thrill Rides" powered by Dodge Vipers, Ram SRT10s and the new Dodge Charger. Attendees will have the chance to sit shotgun in each vehicle as Skip Barber professional drivers turn hot laps on a closed handling course. Professional drivers also will conduct Dodge Charger drifting demonstrations and simulated chases for fans to see firsthand the capabilities of the new vehicle.
In addition to experiencing the performance of today’s Dodge vehicles, visitors also will have the opportunity to relive the Dodge dominance of days past in a Charger/HEMI "museum" that features classic HEMI engine displays, historic photographs, models and original advertising elements.
HEMI enthusiasts should be sure to visit Dodge City Feb. 18 to 19 from 4 to 5 p.m. EST, as Dodge hosts "HEMI Heroes" - a moderated panel of former Dodge Charger drivers and owners, including Richard Petty, Buddy Baker and Cotton Owens. Fans will be able to ask questions of the panel and participate in the discussion of legendary HEMI performances.
Attendance to Dodge City is free and open to the public daily, Wednesday, Feb. 16 through Sunday, Feb. 20. Dodge City is located directly across International Speedway Boulevard from Daytona International Speedway at the base of the pedestrian overpass.
eBay Auction Winner Receives First 2006 Production Dodge Charger
In the midst of Daytona Speedweeks, the all-new 2006 Dodge Charger takes an early victory lap, winning $75,100 in an eBay charity auction. The auction for the first volume production 2006 Dodge Charger to roll off the assembly line and the replica race car body used in the Dodge Charger world reveal closed Friday, Feb. 11. Proceeds from the winning bid will be shared between Victory Junction Gang Camp and the Salvation Army.

Web surfers will also find enhanced Charger Daytona R/T model content on the special "World of Dodge" homepage hosted on www.nascar.com, which gives fans an exclusive in-depth view of the Dodge DNA that goes into the new vehicle.

02/11/05: Dodge Introduces Nitro Concept Vehicle

Full-Size Attitude in a Mid-Size SUV
What happens when you bring the Dodge brand’s “Grab Life by the Horns” attitude to the mid-size SUV market? You get the Dodge Nitro concept. Making its debut at the 2005 Chicago Auto Show, the Dodge Nitro is a mid-size SUV concept with a uniquely bold, powerful design statement that would ignite an automotive segment more typically characterized by bland styling.
Once again, the Dodge brand is breaking the rules and exploring yet another bold proportion with the Dodge Nitro concept. The Dodge Nitro concept would be the first mid-size SUV for Dodge, completing the brand’s current lineup, which now consists of passenger cars, minivans, trucks and a full-size SUV. The five-passenger Nitro is designed to attract a customer seeking style, performance and utility.
“The Dodge Nitro concept is brimming with character; it evokes emotion through its rugged styling and dominant stance,” said Trevor Creed, Senior Vice President – Chrysler Group Design. “This is more than just another typical mid-size SUV design statement.”
Exterior Styling — Bold and Powerful
The Dodge Nitro’s bright “Anodized Red” exterior color, confident stance and unique full exterior style not only amplify the vehicle’s persona — they set a tone that is continued throughout.
The face of the vehicle features the signature chrome Dodge crosshair grille flanked by jewel-like rectangular headlamps. The imposing hood carries distinctive character lines that relate directly to the front-end features.
Dodge Nitro’s crisp lines and substantial body size create a brawny character not found in any mid-size SUV on the road today. Eye-catching, 20-inch, cast-aluminum wheels convey a no-nonsense functional statement. Brushed silver vents positioned on each front fender and generously proportioned door handles add to the vehicle’s modern design and contemporary flair.
The rear of the vehicle features an integrated trailer tow hitch, chrome dual exhaust tail pipes and a brushed silver license plate visor.
The roof is garnished with a satin silver and black-trimmed roof rack and crossbars that nest between integrated side rails, completing the functional look of the Dodge Nitro concept.
“Although the Dodge Nitro concept is a mid-size sport-utility vehicle, its expressive form and fullness of surface are similar to that of much larger SUVs,” said Rick Aneiros, Vice President – Jeep® and Truck Design. “The vehicle is not just an exercise in design; its attributes are functional and purposeful.”
Interior Styling — Sleek and Utilitarian
The Dodge Nitro concept’s spacious interior is both functional and flexible for people and cargo. Upon entry into the vehicle, chrome, silver and red accents have a dynamic presence throughout the interior.
A three-pod, four-gauge instrument cluster with electroluminescent lighting, featuring white gauges with red pointers, is accented by silver bands, giving the interior a sense of technical precision. Most stunning is the vehicle’s satin silver center console, which houses a DVD-based navigation radio with a seven-inch fixed LED screen. Control buttons, shifter knob, door handles, gauges, speakers and assist handles are also satin silver. The attention to detail continues on to the driver pedals, which are made of brushed aluminum with black rubber anti-slip inserts.
The seats, which have a rich, polished appearance, are black leather with rugged bright red inserts. Black netting placed in the center of the head rests gives the vehicle a built-for-fun appeal. Assist handles are located in the back of the front driver and passenger seats to enable easy entry and exit. Front passenger and rear seats fold flat, allowing for ample cargo capacity.
The rear cargo floor is made of rugged-textured vinyl and is easy to clean. With the rear hatch open, the cargo floor slides rearward for easy and convenient loading and unloading of packages. Modular storage bins and a first-aid kit are located in the rear quarters of the vehicle.
Performance — Functional and Fun
The Dodge Nitro concept is not only great to look at, it’s fun to drive. The Dodge Nitro concept’s estimated performance figures include a top speed of 108 mph, standing 1/4 mile at 16.9 seconds, and can go from 0–60 mph in 9.6 seconds.
The Dodge Nitro concept incorporates existing Chrysler Group components, including the 3.7-liter SOHC V-6 engine, which generates 210 hp (157 kW) @ 5200 rpm and 235 lb.-ft. torque (319 N•m) @ 4000 rpm, the 42RLE four-speed automatic transmission and independent SLA front and five-link rear suspension system. The vehicle has full-time four-wheel drive and weighs in at 4,115 pounds (1867 kg).

With class-leading interior room and comfort for six adult passengers and their gear, the Dodge Ram Mega Cab is in a class all its own.
The all-new 2006 Dodge Ram Mega Cab further solidifies the Dodge Ram truck lineup’s long list of leadership claims: fastest, strongest, most powerful, most capable – and now, most spacious and versatile.
“Packaged with full-size Ram capability, the all-new 2006 Dodge Ram Mega Cab offers the most interior passenger space, cargo capacity and functionality of any pickup truck on the market,” said Darryl Jackson, Vice President, Dodge Marketing, Chrysler Group. “Dodge Ram Mega Cab is the first and only pickup truck to comfortably seat six adults and provide enough interior storage space to bring along plenty of gear.
“Since the year 2000, demand for full-size crew cab pickup trucks has grown approximately 19 percent – and Dodge is responding with the spacious, capable and powerful 2006 Dodge Ram Mega Cab,” added Jackson.
The all-new 2006 Dodge Ram Mega Cab’s 145.2 cubic feet of interior space features the industry’s most innovative seating and storage configurations, including the first reclining rear seats available in a pickup truck, tilting back from a 22 to 37 degree seatback angle for added comfort. “Pickup truck buyers use their truck in a variety of different situations,” said Jackson. “They use it for their daily driver, family road trips, and various recreational activities. The all-new 2006 Dodge Ram Mega Cab delivers ultimate versatility, offering the most functionally diverse cab ever created for pickup truck buyers who want more room, comfort and convenience.”
Space in a Different Place
The starting point for the all-new 2006 Dodge Ram Mega Cab is the 160.5-inch wheelbase Ram 2500 long box model. Engineers re-proportioned the cab and the pickup box by replacing the eight-foot long box with the Ram 2500’s six-foot, three-inch box, providing an additional 20 inches for the cab. The result is a cab length of 111.1 inches – more than 12 inches longer than the 2005 Ford F-250 Crew Cab.
“When it comes to pickup trucks, size matters, and Dodge delivers,” said Mike Donoughe, Vice President, Body-on-Frame Product Team, Chrysler Group. “The all-new 2006 Dodge Ram Mega Cab features a cab of immense proportions, perfect for hauling the entire family, while also hauling heavy loads.”
Premium amenities offered in the all-new 2006 Dodge Ram Mega Cab include a full-screen navigation radio, rear-seat DVD entertainment system, power-sliding rear window, heated front bucket seats, power sunroof and adjustable pedals.
Bold and Powerful Dodge Ram Design
The all-new 2006 Dodge Ram Mega Cab takes the bold and powerful Dodge Ram appearance to a new, even more contemporary level.
“Bold, powerful and capable is the theme of all Dodge Rams and that theme is clearly evident in the all-new 2006 Dodge Ram Mega Cab,” said Rick Aneiros, Vice President, Truck Design, Chrysler Group. “The prominent chrome grille, supported by strong contemporary headlamps and a massive front bumper, gives the Dodge Ram Mega Cab a tough and intimidating appearance that is undoubtedly the face of Dodge Ram.”
Offered in SLT and Laramie trim, the all-new 2006 Dodge Ram Mega Cab is instantly recognizable with its pronounced signature Ram crosshair grille and big-rig styling. The chrome crosshair grille and strong surround collar sit above Mega Cab’s substantial bumper. The Dodge Ram Mega Cab’s Laramie trim features a chrome front fascia appliqué, creating a rugged yet premium look.
The all-new Dodge Ram Mega Cab features a dual-lamp system, yet is designed with the premium look of quad headlamps. Lamps are precise in appearance and extend deep into the fender, giving the Dodge Ram Mega Cab’s front end presence a truly distinctive look from both front and side views.
The new interior design of the 2006 Dodge Ram Mega Cab includes a wide center console that reinforces its large, interior dimensions. The instrument panel features precise gauges and large, user-friendly buttons and knobs. In addition, generous storage bins and compartments, flexible-sized cup holders, and premium materials create a functional and upscale atmosphere within the all-new 2006 Dodge Ram Mega Cab.
Full-size Pickup Truck Capability and Power
Available in Ram 1500, 2500 and 3500 models, all 2006 Dodge Ram Mega Cabs are built on the Dodge Ram Heavy Duty structure. Chassis, frame, axles, wheels and signature Dodge Ram Heavy Duty Cummins Turbo Diesel and HEMI® engines provide maximum power and payload capability, consistent with all Dodge Ram Heavy Duty trucks.
“The prerequisites for a full-size pickup truck are maximum power, maximum torque and maximum towing capability and the all-new 2006 Dodge Ram Mega Cab delivers on all three,” said Donoughe. “The Dodge Ram Mega Cab consists of a proven frame and chassis design packaged with engines truck enthusiasts clamor for: Cummins and HEMI.”
With two class-dominating engines offered, the all-new 2006 Dodge Ram Mega Cab provides the ultimate in full-size pickup power. It is available with a new six-speed manual transmission or an automatic transmission. The 5.7-liter HEMI V-8, standard on the Dodge Ram Mega Cab 1500 and 2500 models, leads the crew cab segment with 345 horsepower and 375 lb.-ft. of torque, and is available with a five-speed automatic transmission.
Along with class-leading power, the all-new 2006 Dodge Ram Mega Cab retains Dodge Ram’s heavy-duty towing and payload capability with a maximum towing capacity of 15,800 lbs., a payload of 2,840 lbs. and Gross Combined Weight Rating (GCWR) and Gross Vehicle Weight Rating (GVRW) ratings of 23,000 lbs. and 9,900 lbs., respectively.
Dodge Truck Leadership
The all-new Dodge Ram Mega Cab solidifies Ram’s leadership in the full-size pickup market by offering the largest pickup truck cab on the planet with best-in-class interior room and comfort. Ram’s leadership includes:
- Most POWERFUL pickup: Dodge Ram 1500 with legendary HEMI power is the most powerful mass production light-duty pickup on the market

The all-new 2006 Dodge Ram Mega Cab effectively expands the Dodge Truck product line, delivering a crew cab derivative model that complements the Dodge Ram regular and Quad Cab in the full-size pickup truck market.
Dodge Ram Heavy Duty trucks ranked first ("Heavy-Duty Full-Size Pickup") in the 2004 J.D. Power and Associates Automotive Performance, Execution and Layout (APEAL) and Initial Quality studies.
The Dodge Ram lineup has an 18 percent share of the pickup truck market. Dodge is the Chrysler Group’s best-selling brand and the number four nameplate in the U.S. auto market, with 1.2 million vehicles sold in 2004.
The all-new 2006 Dodge Ram Mega Cab is covered by a 7-year/70,000-mile Powertrain Limited Warranty. The Cummins Turbo Diesel engine is covered by a separate 7-year/100,000-mile warranty.
Built at Chrysler Group’s Saltillo, Mexico assembly plant, the all-new 2006 Dodge Ram Mega Cab will be available in dealerships in fall of 2005.

Auburn Hills, Mich., Feb 09, 2005 - Since the rebirth of the HEMI® engine, HEMI has become a brand within a brand, taking the hottest new Chrysler, Jeep® and Dodge vehicles to a new level in power and technology. "That Thing Gotta HEMI" has become a household phrase, serving as a constant reminder that anything with a HEMI is truly top notch.
In celebration of the legendary HEMI engine, Chrysler Group launches the "What Can You HEMI?" contest, asking consumers the question: If you could infuse the power and torque of the 5.7-liter V-8 HEMI engine into anything, what would it be?
Chrysler Group is encouraging consumers to imagine the possibilities of HEMI power. Anyone up for the challenge is required to submit their HEMI-powered invention in a brief essay (300 words or less) and to support the idea with a sketch.

The HEMI engine was first made popular in 1951 when Chrysler Corporation introduced its entry in the post-war horsepower race. Its power and efficiency made it an instant favorite for all sorts of motorsports vehicles. Although reluctantly retired in 1959 due to high manufacturing cost, the HEMI design was still unsurpassed. In 1964, NASCAR competition sparked the HEMI's return, and it has remained available for motorsport use ever since. Today, the 5.7-liter HEMI V-8 engine, a modern high-performance, fuel-efficient and durable powerplant, is now available in select Chrysler, Jeep and Dodge production model vehicles. On vehicles offering the HEMI engine, the take rate is more than 45 percent.
The 2005 Chrysler 300C was the first modern volume production vehicle in North America to feature cylinder deactivation. Chrysler Group's MDS technology seamlessly turns off the fuel consumption in four cylinders of the 5.7-liter HEMI engine when V-8 power is not needed, improving fuel economy up to 20 percent. MDS is also standard on Dodge Magnum and Jeep Grand Cherokee, equipped with a HEMI engine.

- Dodge to boost HEMI® to 350 horsepower for Dodge Charger Daytona R/T model introduction
- "Go ManGo!" and "Top Banana" classic paint schemes to appear on limited-production Dodge Charger Daytona R/T
Auburn Hills, Mich., Feb 07, 2005 - After a 27-year hiatus, Dodge Charger returns to the Daytona International Speedway and Daytona Speedweeks this week with the introduction of a new limited-production 2006 Charger Daytona R/T model amidst the sounds of the track, cheers of the fans and the roar of the legendary HEMI® engine.
"The legendary Dodge Charger nameplate returns on a modern, high-performance, rear-wheel-drive vehicle that combines bold design with four-door functionality,” said Darryl Jackson, Vice President - Dodge Marketing, Chrysler Group. “To celebrate Dodge Charger's return to NASCAR, we’re introducing a limited-production Daytona R/T model that offers a little slice of history with all the performance and handling characteristics to satisfy modern muscle car enthusiasts.”
Legendary Colors for Legendary Car
Daytona race fans yelling “Go man, go!” will not only be cheering on the new Dodge Charger in its return to NASCAR Nextel Cup racing, but also will be describing the paint scheme on the first-available, limited-production 2006 Dodge Charger Daytona R/T model. Go ManGo!, a high-impact paint name initially used for the 1970 Dodge Charger, returns in an updated metallic orange paint on the all-new 2006 Dodge Charger Daytona R/T.
Following the limited-production run of Dodge Charger Daytona R/T in Go ManGo! will be a Dodge Charger Daytona R/T offered in Top Banana, another high-impact heritage paint name. The Top Banana Dodge Charger Daytona R/T will peel off the line in limited numbers later in 2005.
In addition to the special exterior paint colors, the 2006 Dodge Charger Daytona R/T model will be distinguishable by an exclusive front fascia with a chin spoiler and black honeycomb grille, unique black "Daytona” and “HEMI” decals, signature heritage R/T badging and a black rear decklid spoiler. The Daytona model also will include large, bright, dual-exhaust tips and 18-inch polished wheels with low-gloss, jet-black painted pockets. The powerful HEMI engine will feature a HEMI-orange engine cover.
The interior of the 2006 Dodge Charger Daytona R/T will feature performance front seats with suede inserts and embroidered "Daytona" logos on the front headrests. Body-color accent stitching will appear on the front and rear seats and on the leather-wrapped steering wheel. Matching body-colored center stack bezel, a "Daytona Limited Edition" display on the electronic cluster and a sequentially numbered limited-edition Daytona badge on the instrument panel will complete the unique Dodge Charger Daytona R/T interior.
The Dodge Charger Daytona R/T comes equipped with standard world-class ride and handling features, including Electronic Stability Program (ESP), All-speed Traction Control and Anti-lock Brake System (ABS). The Dodge Charger Daytona R/T model also will feature dual-zone automatic temperature controls, heated power front seats and power-adjustable pedals.
The 2006 Dodge Charger Daytona R/T in Go ManGo! paint will be on display at the 2005 Chicago Auto Show during press days, beginning Feb. 9. Dodge Charger Daytona R/T models in Go ManGo! and Top Banana paint will be featured in the Daytona Speedway Dodge City display, Feb. 16–20.
Dodge to Boost 5.7-liter HEMI to 350 Horsepower
Just in time for the Dodge Charger Daytona R/T launch, Chrysler Group engineers have muscled out even more horsepower from the legendary HEMI engine. The 2006 Dodge Charger Daytona R/T will feature a five-speed automatic transmission with AutoStick® and a 5.7-liter HEMI V-8 engine that offers an estimated 350 horsepower and 390 lb.-ft. of torque - 10 more horses than the previous 5.7-liter HEMI - for even more power in this modern rear-wheel-drive muscle car.
Chrysler Group engineers developed uniquely tuned intake and exhaust systems to unleash some of the HEMI engine's untapped power for the Dodge Charger Daytona R/T. By using a less restrictive intake system and moving to a straight-through muffler from a three-pass muffler, the newly tuned 5.7-liter HEMI gets a 10-horsepower boost and a throaty, high-performance tone to match.
The HEMI engine's Multi-Displacement System (MDS) provides up to 20 percent improved fuel economy, giving Dodge Charger customers the legendary HEMI power they want with fuel economy they will appreciate.
A high-performance suspension package that includes special suspension tuning, 18-inch all-season P235/55 R18 performance tires, performance-tuned 9-land steering gear and Nivomat™ self-leveling rear shock absorbers will be standard on the Charger Daytona R/T model.
2006 Dodge Charger Production
Production of the 2006 Dodge Charger SE, SXT and R/T models begins this spring at the Brampton Assembly Plant in Brampton, Ontario, Canada, with vehicles available in North American markets early this summer. The Dodge Charger will join the Dodge Magnum and Chrysler 300 vehicles built there.
Limited production of the 2006 Dodge Charger Daytona R/T model in modern Go ManGo! paint will begin early this summer with vehicles available in North American markets soon after. The Dodge Charger Daytona R/T model in Top Banana paint will be available after the limited production of Go ManGo! is complete.
Dodge Charger Returns to NASCAR Racing at Daytona International Speedway
Joining the celebration of the Dodge Charger’s return to NASCAR racing at this year’s Daytona International Speedway will be two Dodge Charger NASCAR Nextel Cup race cars painted in the same special colors of Go ManGo! and Top Banana.
On Friday, Feb. 11, the Evernham Motorsports team will unveil the new Bud Shootout paint schemes on Dodge Charger race cars at the Daytona International Speedway, alongside the 2006 Dodge Charger Daytona R/T production vehicles.
The original Dodge Charger race car debuted during the 1966 Speedweeks at Daytona. In its 11 years of racing, the Charger won 124 NASCAR Cup races and took three drivers to five championships. Richard Petty won three of his seven titles behind the wheel of a Dodge Charger and was behind the wheel of Charger’s last victory at Daytona in the 1977 Firecracker 400.
In 1970, a Dodge Charger Daytona made history at Talladega Speedway when Buddy Baker became the first driver to be clocked at more than 200 mph for a lap on a closed course.

- Eighth consecutive new Chrysler Group Product to Receive Five Stars for Frontal Crash Protection
Auburn Hills, Mich., Feb 01, 2005 -The all-new 2005 Dodge Dakota Club Cab has received a Five-Star rating in front and side-impact crash tests from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA). The Dodge Dakota marks the eighth consecutive new Chrysler Group product to receive Five-Star frontal crash-test rating.
A Five-Star rating means the likelihood of injury in a frontal crash is 10 percent or less.
“When the Dodge Dakota was redesigned, we knew we wanted to continue what Dodge is known for – rugged, tough vehicles that withstand all road conditions,” said Mike Donoughe, Vice President Body On Frame Product Team. “We also knew that the all-new 2005 Dodge Dakota would be built to include the latest safety technology that would help keep our customers and their passengers safe in case of an impact.”
Safety features on the all-new Dodge Dakota include a hydroformed and fully-boxed frame that improves handling, accident avoidance and crash protection. The new, award-winning and patented octagonal front frame rail tips help absorb impacts in a frontal crash.
Additionally, the 2005 Dodge Dakota features a new advanced air bag system that includes dual-stage front air bags and an occupant-sensing system for the passenger-side front air bag. Other safety features available on the new Dodge Dakota include side curtain air bags, which cover both rows of seats on Club and Quad Cabs. Rear seat positions in the Dodge Dakota feature three-point shoulder belts, including a new center seating position on the Quad Cab.
Designed to maintain optimal positioning in case of an impact, rear seats on the new Dodge Dakota feature fixed outboard rear head restraints, mounted to the roof and cab back as well as larger coverage head restraints that are fixed to the top of the outboard rear seats.
Starting with the Chrysler Pacifica in 2003, Chrysler Group has an unbroken string of eight consecutive product launches that produced NHTSA-rated Five-Star vehicles for frontal crash protection. Vehicles include: Chrysler Pacifica, Chrysler and Dodge Minivan, Dodge Durango, Dodge Ram 1500, Dodge Ram Quad, Chrysler 300, Dodge Magnum, and Dodge Dakota.
